welcome

In the past week our community has grown by two. We have welcomed a new Kindergartener and our student teacher, Megan. The children have been incredibly kind and inclusive, ensuring both community members feel successful, safe, and loved. It has been powerful to observe how our youngest students can teach about our school and our classroom. They have shared what we've been learning and working on. They have modeled our community rules, transitions, and green zone expectations.

I have looked to the children to be the experts and the teachers. You can feel change when a community grows, you feel a shift in relationships, physical space, and classroom dynamics. How incredible to observe the children work to regain our balance as a living system while ensuring the needs of all community members- old and new- are met.

Welcome Lucas!

In the first photograph new peers connect over letter lacing. Later in the week, Lucas bravely shares his work building short vowel words during academic choice. The children have enjoyed sharing stories and learning more about themselves as they learn about our new friend.

Welcome Megan!

It feels like Megan has been with us all year. She has observed conferring in Reader's and Writer's Workshop. She has checked in with students about their reading strategies and has supported students with their narrative writing. On Thursday she engaged students in working with our calendar, monthly collector, and 100's chart during Number Corner. She is incredibly kind and we are thankful to have her support! Megan will be with us until April.
