distance learning share 5/20 - 5/21

Community Connections

Remember Sidney's crawling trick?

Cora (Brennan's pup) has a trick to share, too.

Cora's SNEEZE!

How To . . .

Lucas shared How To Make a Volcano with us this week!
You can find his numbered steps in our daily recording for Thursday, 5-21-20.

Reading

The children worked from their new online libraries this week. They practiced using their library and transferring their reading strategies (reading powers) into their independent reading of an online book. They had a reflection (exit ticket) each day to help monitor their use of strategies for decoding new words and for ensuring voice in their learning!

Questions about their feelings and topic choices will help to shape their libraries for next week.

Math

Before we move into subtraction story problems for next week, it is important that the children can show equations and number combinations in different ways.

If I flash a ten frame that has 5 on top and three on the bottom, can they build it on their ten frame? Can they show the combination with a number tree? Can they write an addition equation to match? Can they then show the equation on a number line?

This week was full of many ways to show and solve addition equations within 10!

After solving a Sidney addition problem using a number line, children were invited to make their own BIG number line! You can make a number line inside or outside. You can work with numbers within 10 or larger numbers.

The children had addition equations to solve on their BIG number line at home!
