distance learning share 3-24-20

Our Distance Learning Share for Tuesday, 3-24-20

An example of family rules from Bryan!
I think we can all agree these are essential rules for all of us!

Writing

Alice drew a detailed drawing of her fern today. Tomorrow she will use these notes to write the first page of her book. She will draw another picture with labels and try to write a sentence about what her fern looks like!

You all used the scientific skill of observation today and made a plan for your writing. Our writing and science work are connected.

Myra chose Clover as her topic. Take a close look at Myra's drawing and read her labels.
What kind of animal is Clover? What kind of tail does Clover have? Her writing is easy-to-read!

Brennan is writing about his sweet toy, Bun Bun. His observation, detailed drawing, and label will help him write the first page of his book tomorrow! Look at Bun Bun's floppy ears!

Solveig chose her topic, Mignon. We know how much Solveig loves Mignon and now we get to learn more about her! Point and read Solveig's labels. She was persistent today!

Ira chose his topic today, too. Pointy ears! Ira used descriptive words to give us more information.

Ivy is going to write her book about Alabama, her beloved cat. We know about Alabama from stories she has shared at school! She will use her labels to help her write sentences on her first page tomorrow.

Bryan labeled a picture of Molly the Cat today!

Owen and Colbie shared their detailed notes about their topics!

Let's be inspired by our author and friend, Colbie.

Writing a little storybook isn't part of our Kindergarten plans, but it's a great way to practice drawing and writing across pages. Colbie wrote her own version of the very hungry caterpillar and used her cutting and taping skills. She was excited to share her book with our community!

Notice her use of sound power.
I'm sure she had to practice being persistent when writing all of the days of the week.
Maybe I will write a book called the Hungry, Hungry Hedgehog!

Play

Next week I will be inviting families to set up an academic choice time at home. For now, embrace time for your child to play. We love academic choice in our classroom, because it is a time for children to actively engage in dramatic play scripts. These creative moments support the development of essential language and literacy skills.

Perhaps more opportunities for PLAY is something beautiful in this uncertain time.

Solveig set her animals up for school today, with computers, of course. I wonder if elephant and platypus are friends or if one is the teacher? Or maybe Solveig is the teacher. Or maybe Mignon is the teacher!

Bryan is a skilled builder. Today was a great day to play, build, and create with legos!
Did you build today?

Reading

Brennan is showing us how Avid Readers use their tools to support their independence! He has his reading powers and his letter sheet next to him while he reads.

Bryan is using his pointer power and has his tools at the table, too!

Owen shares his front cover with us. He is working on his knowledge of letters and sounds by playing a game of alphabet memory!

Ivy (the Avid Reader) models keeping her reading powers close!

Our plan today was to read and talk about our reading goals with our family.
Did you talk with your family about your goal?
